Individual skills promoting ball movement to open passers and shooters as well as dodging.
At the 5/6 level, players will build on the individual and team techniques from the 3/4 level. 5/6 players are introduced to more sophisticated offensive and defensive schemes as well as limited body checking and protection techniques. Long sticks for defense are introduced in 5/6 and individual defensive body positioning skills emphasized to ensure appropriate use and skill development with defensive long sticks. Emphasis at this level is placed on individual skills promoting ball movement to open passers and shooters as well as dodging to pass and shoot and off-ball players moving to open space to receive passes and feeds. The 5/6 level teams will generally have a ten (10) game NSYL schedule with additional scrimmages and mid and end of season tournaments.
